Physicians Should Not Prescribe for Family or Self

Physicians Should Not Prescribe for Family or Self

Physicians prescribing for themselves or family members may have legal or ethical implications. The Ohio State University Health Plan does not cover medical or pharmacy benefits for procedures, prescriptions, services, supplies, or charges received from a member of your immediate family which includes yourself. Additionally, you may not certify medical necessity for yourself or an immediate family member for any covered services. The health plan audits on a regular basis for self-prescribing and will take action including asking for a refund of self-prescribed medication plan payments.

As a partner of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and a provider to Your Plan for Health, we are helping the greatest university on earth promote better health and wellness – one plan member at a time.
