Recent advances in brain imaging have begun mapping out the changes within the mind of someone that is addicted. It is these changes that impact people’s will power, thinking and behaviors. Furthermore, it is not just addicted to drugs or alcohol that forms these brain changes, it can be any substance or behavior that is addicting from food to video games and from gambling to hoarding. This presentation will examine the new scientific discoveries and also review associated pharmacologic and behavior treatment advances that are potentially coming over the next few years.
