Green is one of my favorite colors. It reminds me of newness, life and hope. I guess that is why I always thought it was so fitting that Mental Health Awareness Month is symbolized with a green ribbon. A little green ribbon, that says so much.
Every May I take a quiet moment to pause, observe, reflect and check in with myself. I’m reminded how grateful I am for the opportunity The Ohio State University Employee Assistance Program (EAP) has to support the Ohio State community. Being able to serve faculty and staff in meaningful, practical ways is something I truly value, and it’s a privilege to do this work alongside such a thoughtful and committed group of Buckeyes.
It is also important to notice the people around us and remember that mental health is part of everyday life. Mental health awareness is not about having all the answers. It is about noticing -- noticing when something feels off or when a colleague needs support and noticing when you might need help yourself and knowing where to turn.
One of the ways EAP helps build that awareness is through our Mental Health Awareness workshops, which will be offered again this May for staff and managers. These workshops are practical, human and grounded in real workplace experiences. We cover recognizing signs of struggle, how to have supportive conversations and how to connect someone to the right resources. Managers receive additional guidance on leading and supporting others with care and confidence.
If you have ever wondered what to say, how to help or where to start, these sessions are for you.
You can register for upcoming Mental Health Awareness workshops through Link to Health.
