Mental Health Awareness Month
Tyler McGuire LISW; The Ohio State University Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Starting in 1949, Mental Health America has observed May as Mental Health Awareness Month. Since that time, many agencies have joined in the effort to spread the word on this important topic. The Ohio State University Employee Assistance Program (EAP) would like to invite you to partake in enhancing your knowledge and being an advocate for yourself and your communities this month and beyond.

Mental health awareness usually entails recognizing signs of a mental health struggle in ourselves and others. The EAP seeks to achieve this very goal with our Mental Health Awareness (MHA) trainings offered to staff and managers. In recognition of Mental Health Awareness month, the EAP is offering two MHA workshops in May. These trainings also focus on recognizing warning signs of suicide, how to support someone in the midst of a struggle, as well as treatment resources and appropriate referrals. Please see below for details and to register:

Mental Health Awareness Training for Managers: May 14 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Mental Health Awareness Training for Staff: May 27 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

In addition to enhancing your knowledge, self-care is another important part of Mental Health Awareness Month. This could mean engaging in activities such as physical movement, increasing boundaries with others, or following interests of passion.
