Understanding Your EAP Benefit: Life Coaching Services at Ohio State
Suzanne Vickers, LISW-S; Ohio State University Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

At the Ohio State University Employee Assistance Program (EAP), you have a few options to get support for topics such as stress management, goal setting, time management, and communication: via counseling or through life coaching. A Life Coach is someone who can help you to better your life skills, set goals and achieve them with an “accountability buddy." If you need help, life coaching might be just the kind of support you need.

With the Ohio State EAP, you can receive five complimentary virtual life coaching sessions, per eligible member, per rolling calendar year. Life Coaching is not covered by insurance, so the benefit is a wonderful opportunity to try out working with someone who can coach you on skills you are wanting to practice and learn. It is important to note, the life coaching benefit cannot be utilized at the same time as the EAP counseling benefit, by the same individual.

Achieve personal and professional goals with Life Coaching by learning to:

Manage life transitions

Improve stress and time management

Overcome obstacles

Strengthen relationships

Improve communication

Manage multiple projects and demands

Life Coaching typically involves a shorter-term commitment focused on achieving specific outcomes within a set period than does typical counseling. Life Coaches have certifications in coaching but are not mental health professionals, which is important to note. Life Coaching can assist you to have accountability to achieve your personal and professional goals.
